Language Interpretation and Patient Support (LIPS) - Tameside & Glossop

Welcome to the language interpretation & patient support service. The aim of the service is to enable non-English speaking patients access to Tameside Hospital NHS Foundation Trust services. 

About Our Service

LIPS can provide interpreters who communicate in over 30 different languages. It has a proven record of improving access to NHS services for non-English speaking patients. The service is available to residents of Tameside & Glossop registered with a Tameside & Glossop GP and to patients accessing services at Stepping Hill hospital.

Our Expertise

The service provides qualified interpreters with experience and knowledge of working in hospitals and clinics. 

How To Use The Service

  • Patients, relatives and carer’s can ask their clinician for an interpreter.
  • The clinician will arrange for an interpreter.
  • The interpreter will introduce themself and ensure that both the patient and clinician understand what is being said and asked. The interpreter can be stopped at any time if you don’t understand something.
  • Patients cannot contact the service directly to ask for an interpreter.

Opening Times

The service booking office is open 9am-5pm Monday-Friday. Interpreters are available 24 hours.
