Pre-employment

Over the past few years, we have offered Pre-employment placements within the trust. This year we worked in partnership with Inspire 2 Independence (i2i) who specialise in supporting people back into work. We have offered placements to 15 local people who had been out of work for a number of years.

 

Pre programme training

Following an open day with the NHS representative any successful candidates undertake 6 weeks training to complete a Health & social care qualification at level 1 and a customer service qualification at level 2 with a team of expert tutors on hand to embed crucial skills before undertaking their work placement opportunities. All candidates also receive support with any application form completion and general employability such as CV writing and interview preparation.

 

Units that are undertaken within the qualifications are:

  • Safeguarding
  • Equality & diversity
  • British values

 

Customer Service

  • Understanding the organisation
  • Understanding Customers
  • Communication in a customer service role
  • Preparing to deliver excellent customer service
  • develop an understanding of other topics such as equality and diversity and safeguarding to complement company policies. The learners will also develop an understanding of the trusts underpinning values and vision to assist them in becoming the best possible employee

 

During this time the groups build in confidence, motivation and become familiar with their other group members and in some cases become firm friends.

 

Placements

We have placement opportunities all over the Trust, including Estates and Facilities (Catering, Portering, and Domestics Services), Clinical Areas, Administration roles throughout the trust and in our Community service areas.

 

Whilst on a 10 week placement candidates are usually ‘budded up’ with a member of the team to shadow and learn from for a period of time and until the team supervisor/manager and the candidate are both confident with completing tasks alone.

 

Post placement

Once the 10 week place is drawing to a close candidates will be sent suitable vacant roles for them to apply for an interviewed if they have the relent skills for the role.

 

The placements have been a great success so far with on average 60+% gaining employment with us following a pre-employment placement.
