Task Description

 

Volunteer Role:         Response Volunteers

Response Volunteers - Volunteers will work across the whole Trust to support the staff and patients and will respond to calls for where they are most needed. This will help to enable the smooth running of the various areas and enhance the patient experience.

Service area:             Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust

 

Vision:                        To recruit and train volunteers able to attend and support areas of high pressure as requested by NHS staff. This will improve the patient experience, reduce waiting times for discharge and release more staff time to care for our patients.

 

Objective:                  Volunteers will respond to calls/bleeps for assistance in a number of key areas around the Trust which are recognised as being “pinch points”. Volunteer support will help to enable the smooth running of that area and enhance the patient experience. Volunteers will be trained to respond to requests in real time situations and have the flexibility to move around according to the Trust patient’s non-clinical requirements.

 

Minimum length of volunteering for this post: 3 months

 

Task Description

This is an exciting opportunity for volunteers to get involved in the various areas across the Trust. You will be involved in a variety of different services and will add real value to the service provided directly to the patients. Some of the tasks you will be doing include:

  • Supporting the Emergency Department during high pressure
  • Picking up medication from the Pharmacy to assist and accelerate the discharge process
  • Assisting with the discharge of a patient
  • Assisting a patient who may be at End of Life
  • Visiting a patient on the ward who is confused or lonely as a Befriender
  • Assisting a family member or carer who may be distressed
  • To support feedback with the Family and Friends test(FFT) to see how we can improve the service we offer to our patients and their relatives

 

The role is very diverse and you should always be very busy supporting the areas, patients or visitors you will be helping on the day

  • You will need to be committed to the role and attend your agreed shift on a regular basis
  • Adaptable
  • Able to move around the various areas in the Trust
  • Able to work alone but also take instruction from the Team and your colleagues
  • Flexible
  • Willing to attend all relevant training
