Keep hydrated this summer with our Hydration Challenge!

Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS FT is reminding people to keep hydrated by taking part in a summer long hydration challenge.

Unless otherwise advised by a health care practitioner, adults need to drink around eight drinks a day.  Anyone who wants to take part in the challenge can download our chart and keep track of how much they drink.

Water makes up two thirds of the human body so it is important to drink enough fluids to maintain a healthy balance.  Warmer weather in the summer can easily dehydrate people, so it is important to drink more and especially help elderly people with their fluid intake as they are more at risk of becoming dehydrated.

Keeping hydrated can improve your overall wellbeing by:

  • Preventing urinary tract infections
  • Helping you lose weight
  • Maintaining healthy skin
  • Boosting productivity
  • Promoting healthy digestion
  • Improving your mood

The Director of Nursing at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS FT, Peter Weller, has offered these tips for taking part in the hydration challenge this month; “Drinking is so important, because it flushes bad bugs out of our bodies. Don’t wait until you are thirsty to have a drink and choose drinks that you like and are more likely to finish such as water, squash, tea or coffee.

“The colour of your urine is a good indicator for seeing how hydrated you are, it should be a pale yellow colour.  The darker your urine the more dehydrated you are so make sure you have a drink.  Take up our hydration challenge and feel better!”
