As you may have seen in the news, Junior Doctors are planning national industrial action for 48 hours from 8am on Wednesday 9th March until 8am on Friday 11th March. Further stoppages are also planned to take place on Wednesday 6th to 8am Friday 8th April and Tuesday 26th to 8am Thursday 28th April 2016
Like the previous action, emergency cover will be provided as normal. Planned surgery and clinics will be stepped down only where required. Ward Liaison Officers will be based in all areas (in-patients and out-patients) and will work with teams to identify and address any issues with which additional senior support may be required.
‘Major Incident’ arrangements will be put in to place, including the establishment of a ‘Silver command’, located in Hartshead Restaurant (NB: This is NOT a Major Incident). All non-junior Medical staff are required to be on site for the full day of the strike. All non-clinical sessions have been stood down and replaced with clinical sessions (DCC). Some elective and out-patient activity has been cancelled and patients have been advised of this cancellation.
Patient safety must remain our priority and we need to work as a team to ensure this happens. We would expect that during this time, regardless of individuals’ personal views in relation to the industrial action, that we maintain the values and behaviours that are part of our culture at THFT.
