Tameside Hospital Introduces Activity Boxes in some of the wards
16 September 2014

As part of improving the experience of our patients with dementia Tameside Hospital has initiated activity boxes for each ward. These have been put into use recently on the hospital wards and are being used to engage patients. The activity boxes are part of a person-centred approach to dementia care.

Phase 1 of the Activity Boxes project has been cost free with all the work and items being donated by volunteers and staff. Sister Collette, our long-term chaplain collected shoe boxes and decoratively covered them with black and white photos from the Tameside local library archives. Inside each box volunteers have collected and placed activities such as playing cards, dominoes, colouring books, notepads and pens.

We would also like to encourage our volunteer befrienders, dining companions and students from Tameside College to use the activity boxes as part of their interaction with patients and roll the project out further across the hospital.
