Ophthalmic outpatient appointments carried out at Tameside Hospital.
29 July 2014

From 1 August 2014, Tameside patients with cataracts and minor eye conditions, will have both their ophthalmic outpatient appointments and operations carried out at Tameside General Hospital.

This will provide an improved quality of care to our patients in a more local setting for them, as patients previously had to travel to Rochdale Infirmary Eye Unit for their day case procedures.

The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust will deliver two theatre lists per week in the new day case theatres unit at Tameside General Hospital.

The Trust has invested significantly in this service reconfiguration with a new £31,000 biometry machine, which measures the size and shape of the eye to determine the most suitable lens to be implanted during cataract surgery.

Tameside patients will continue to see the same consultant and associate specialists for their treatment. GPs and patient referral pathways will not change from the current arrangements.

If you have any queries please contact Rachel Scott, directorate manager – head and neck at The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust on 0161 627 8635.
