As well as tours of the facilities, there will be a number of stalls including one where the public can learn which way a baby is lying in the womb by using a mannequin to palpate a pregnant abdomen.
Midwives will be available to support, inform and advise mums-to-be about all aspects of pregnancy and childbirth, including breastfeeding, smoking cessation and weight management support. They can also see the inflatable delivery pool available for home births and see demonstrations of non-invasive pain relief such as TENS, massage and aromatherapy.
Representatives will be on hand from the University of Manchester and the University of Salford to discuss midwifery courses and student midwives will speak about their experiences at Tameside Hospital. Also there will be members of Home-Start, a national family support charity that helps parents to build better lives for their children.
There will also be information about support groups for women and families after the loss of a baby or miscarriage
Lesley Tones, head of Midwifery at Tameside Hospital, said: “Please come along to have a chat with us - we would love to see you.”
The event takes place on Saturday, December 7, from 11am to 3pm, in the Maternity Unit in the Charlesworth Building.
