Visiting Times

Visiting times vary from ward to ward, mainly due to protected mealtimes, which aims to avoid all unnecessary interruptions by staff and other visitors whilst patients are eating.

All times are dependant on the patient's clinical condition.

Please contact the relevant ward if you wish to visit outside the standard visiting hours, which are:-

Adult Medical & Surgical Visiting Times

Standard visiting hours are:  3:00 - 5:00pm  And  6:30 - 8:00pm

Children's  Ward Visiting Times

  • Visiting hours within the Children's Ward  are unrestricted

Delivery Suite

  • Within the Delivery Suite (Labour Ward) up to two birth partners may be present throughout labour and delivery

Neonatal Intensive Care Visiting

For the Neonatal Intensive Care unit where visiting hours are unrestricted, all visitors must be accompanied by a parent of the baby.

Maternity Visiting Hours

  • 3.00pm - 5.00pm
  • 6.30pm - 8.00pm
  • Partners Only Visiting: 10.00am  - 12.00pm

To ensure that mothers are given adequate rest and support on the ante-natal and post-natal wards, visitors are restricted to two (excluding partners) and are asked to adhere strictly to the daily times.  The Delivery Suite (Labour Ward) is the only exception and up to two birth partners may be present throughout labour and delivery.  For the Neonatal Intensive Care unit where visiting hours are open, all visitors must be accompanied by a parent of the baby.

Mealtimes and visiting hours

Visiting times vary from ward to ward, mainly due to protected mealtimes, which aims to avoid all unnecessary interruptions by staff and other visitors whilst patients are eating.

Each ward should display a poster clearly identifying its visiting times. In certain circumstances
visiting may be allowed outside the set times. There will usually be one or more periods each day when visiting will be restricted. However, relatives who wish to be involved in the care of the patient during
mealtimes are welcome on the wards.

Travel Expenses

If you receive certain benefits, you may be entitled to a refund of travel costs. Entitlement rules may be subject to change over time.

The Patients’ Expenses office is situated on the ground floor, Darnton Building and is open 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday. Please bring proof of eligibility. Note: the Expenses office is due to be relocated in late 2011. Please contact the Car Parking office for more information.
